Session I – Digitally Releasing Your Next Book
Let’s face it: you know how to write a great book. You know that it takes a series of writing, re-writing, editing… and then back to more writing! But at some point, you’ll be finished and ready to move on to publishing. Er… how exactly does that work?
Digital publishing isn’t rocket surgery, but it is a complete mystery to most authors. Now that digital publishing is in your hands and not the hands of the agent or publisher, you need to take control of this crucial step.
In this two-hour session, you’ll learn the exact steps you must take to get your book out there. Things like:
- Where to find amazing design talent on the cheap
- Formatting your manuscript for easy ebook conversion
- Creating a perfect listing on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, & more
- Making Amazon’s “people also bought…” system work for you
- Setting the right price at the right time
- Ways to sell your book on your own to make even more money
Come hungry to learn… and eat! Breakfast will be served as we go through the materials in this interactive working session.
Who is this for?
- Authors new to digital publishing
- Authors who have completed the writing and editing phase for at least one book
- Authors of fiction and non-fiction
Who is it not for?
- People who want to become authors. Go write a book first.
- Authors with their first book in-progress. Keep your eye on the prize and come see us when the book is fully written and edited.
- Photographers, chefs, playwrights, et al. Hey, we love you people and have lots to teach you about digital publishing, too. But just not this session.1
Session II – Digitally Promoting Yourself And Your Book
Publishing and promoting are joined at the hip. A published book will languish on a shelf (real or virtual) without solid promotion. This task was historically left to the publisher, but all of that has changed. Promotion and marketing efforts now fall to the author. Which is a little ironic, because most authors are terrible marketers!
Publishers didn’t get cheap. The promotional efforts they traditionally performed stopped working. You, as the author-cum-marketer, need to learn a whole new set of skills, tactics and strategy. Because in today’s hyper-connected world, success comes from promoting yourself as much (if not more) than your latest book.
But here’s the good news: promoting yourself and your book online is easier than ever! Connecting with readers digitally isn’t all that much more different than connecting with people in the real world. You just need to know how to do it.
In this two-hour working session, you’ll learn the exact steps you should take to promote you and your book digitally. Things like:
- How to get discovered by new readers
- The smart way to use Facebook, Twitter, Amazon & more
- Building a blog that works for you and your fans
- Book-launch strategies to make a huge splash
- Engendering loyalty among your readers so they buy every book you ever write
Come hungry to learn… and eat! Lunch will be served as we go through the materials in this interactive working session.

1 – The eBook conversion process for the types of books you write is very different. And not all marketplaces will carry fixed-format titles. Yet. That’s changing. And there are certainly ways authors of these books can benefit from digital publishing. We’re just not talking about those in this session. So save your pennies!
